What can we expect from Civ III?
The short answer is simply the best strategy game experience you've ever had! We will accomplish this by keeping the components that made Civilization I and II incredibly addictive and fun games and adding new elements and features that complement and enhance the existing system. In addition, we've built a completely new graphic engine that will provide the most stunning maps, animations and graphics you've ever seen in this genre of game. Here are some of our key objectives:

New game play features that deepen and enrich the Civilization experience - more fun and interesting decision-making and new strategies for victory
Greatly expanded diplomacy: conversational interface and "bargaining table"
New trade system reflects the central role it played in mankind's development
New technologies, Wonders of the World, and Great Leaders expand the scope of the game.
New concept of culture represents the impact of your nation's philosophy and arts on the world.
The most polished cutting-edge animations, art and sound ever found in the genre.
New interface and reporting screens to accommodate both the most seasoned Civilization players and those who are picking it up for the first time.
More powerful and intuitive customization tools.
And those are just a few of the ways we'll improve the Civ experience. Stay tuned for all the details!
What is Sid Meier's role in the making of Civilization III?
Sid is the Director of Creative Development at Firaxis Games. He is overseeing the project, making game play and design decisions.

Are there any plans for Civilization III to be made for the Mac, Linux or other gaming platforms?
MacSoft has released the Macintosh port of Civ III. There are currently no plans to port the game to any other platforms.

Will there be multiplayer support for Civ III?
Civ III is not shipping with multiplayer included. The single-player experience has always been our main focus throughout the development of Civilization III. However, we're working on some cool multiplayer concepts that will take a fresh approach to the challenge of making multiplayer for a turn-based game fun. Once we have more details to report, they'll be posted on this FAQ.

Does Civ III provide Game Editors?
Yes, Civ III ships with an editor that will allow you to greatly customize your Civ experience. This editor not only allows you to alter game elements such as advances, civilizations, units and wonders (to name a few), but also includes a robust map editor.

Are there wonder movies in Civ III?
We have created a beautiful and fun world in Civ III and felt that the Wonder movies of the past would take you out of that world and interrupt the gameplay experience. In Civ III, building a Wonder triggers a reward screen that captures the flavor of the Wonder movies without disrupting the flow of your game.

How many maps ship with Civ III?
Civilization III contains one Standard (100 x 100) Earth map and one Huge (180 x 180) Earth map.

Using the supplied editing tools, players will be able to create and play with other custom civilizations.

What is the difference between the Standard and Limited Edition versions of the game?
The Standard Edition comes with the game CD, and a 235-page manual.
The Limited Edition comes in a sturdy collector's tin, and includes both the manual and the game CD, plus designer's notes from Sid Meier and Jeff Briggs, a fold-out tech tree, and a CD-ROM with behind-the-scenes footage of "The Making of Civ III" and Sid's induction into the IDSA Hall of Fame.

When will my country receive a version of Civilization III?
Localized versions for other countries are in the pipeline, but we have no official dates to report yet. As soon as release dates for other countries are announced, they will be posted here.
